The HNBA Legal Education Fund (“The Fund”) is pleased to highlight that the HNBA’s Inaugural Annual Tennis Tournament, held to benefit The Fund, raised over $19,500 in tax-deductible donations from corporate sponsors and individuals who are committed to supporting the HNBA’s charitable and educational mission. The tournament was held at the famous Crandon Park Tennis Center in Miami, Florida and featured over 100 tennis players, including state and federal judges, law students, lawyers, law professors, and other legal professionals who traveled from various parts of the country to support this charity event. An additional 150 people participated in other aspects of the event such as the Wii Tennis Tournament,a domino tournament, networking opportunities, etc. The tournament received widespread media coverage as well. The event was a smashing success, and we are grateful of Fund supporters who have assisted the HNBA in addressing pipeline issues affecting Hispanic students,” said Román D. Hernández, Chairman of the Board of Directors of The HNBA Legal Education Fund. “The success of this event is a testament to the widespread support that the Fund has garnered both within HNBA circles, within the broader legal profession, and among Corporate America. We are grateful to HNBA Regional President Teresita Chavez-Pedrosa for his vision in creating this annual event, and to her exceptional organizational skills in ensuring such a successful event.”
Next year, the HNBA is committed to expanding the tournament, and to including a golf tournament in an effort to have even greater participation and raise more money for the Fund. Benny Agosto, Jr., HNBA President-Elect and Fund Secretary stated,“I commend the exceptional work that Teresita has accomplished this year, and I pledge my full support and that of the HNBA Board of Governors to this event so that we can maximize the number of monies raised, which all benefit the HNBA’s charitable and educational programming.”
