Miami, FL - On January 20th, The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and The HNBA Legal Education Fund (The Fund) participated in a reception held in Miami, Florida to benefit The Fund. This event was yet another great success, following past receptions held in Houston, TX; Minneapolis, MN; Newark, NJ; and Washington, DC. The funds raised at these events will serve to provide scholarships for the winners of the 16th Annual Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition, to be held in New Orleans, LA, March 10th and 11th.
The reception was held at the Miami office of Jackson Lewis LLP. A generous contribution was provided by one of the most recent members to join the Board of Directors of the Fund, Frank Angones, Past President of The Florida Bar. Also in attendance were leaders of the Puerto Rican Bar Association of Florida (an HNBA Affiliate), HNBA supporters, representatives from area law schools, and other distinguished guests.
The reception served as a perfect introduction and backdrop to the HNBA's Inaugural Tennis Tournament, to be held in Miami tomorrow, February 5th. Teresita Chavez-Pedrosa, HNBA Region VIII President, was on hand to greet attendees and generate excitement about this ground-breaking event, which will also benefit The Fund.
The HNBA and The Fund would like to thank Jackson Lewis LLP for hosting this reception, as well as Pedro Torres-Diaz, Thomas M. Santoro, Christine L. Wilson, Angel Castillo, Jr., Scott S. Allen, and Thomas R. Smith for their support. They would also like to thank The Fund sponsors for their continued support of its charitable and educational mission. The event featured brief remarks by The Fund President, Román D. Hernández and HNBA President-Elect, Benny Agosto, Jr., highlighting some of the HNBA educational programs that will be supported by The Fund, and by The HNBA.
The HNBA Legal Education Fund ("The Fund"), incorporated in April 2010, is a not-for-profit, charitable and educational organization dedicated to promoting and facilitating educational programs, exposing underrepresented students and professionals to the benefits and opportunities in the legal profession, providing scholarship and financial support to individuals from underrepresented communities to pursue legal careers, and supporting the charitable and educational mission of the Hispanic National Bar Association.
