Washington D.C. – Law students representing 32 of the nation’s top law schools gathered at the University of San Diego School of Law on March 5-6, 2010 to participate in the Hispanic National Bar Association’s (HNBA) 15th Annual Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition.
“We always have exceptional students, but this year the competition is truly fierce. All teams produced very strong written briefs and oral arguments. In fact, some members of the judiciary who judged the competition commented that the students’ oral argument skills equaled or surpassed some practitioners who appear before them. This event continues to be an HNBA crown jewel,” stated Román D. Hernández, HNBA National President. “I thank the 12 judges from the HNBA Judicial Council who traveled from different places around country to be present and to support the HNBA’s moot court competition. Also, a big “thank you” to Joel Villaseñor of the law firm Sullivan Taketa LLP for organizing such a successful event,” concluded Hernández.
The 15th Annual Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition Championship Round was judged by Chief Judge Irma Gonzalez (U.S. District Court for the S.D. of California); Chief Justice Paul J. De Muniz (Oregon Supreme Court); Justice (Ret.) Charles Z. Smith (Washington Supreme Court); Justice David Medina (Texas Supreme Court); Judge Gil Román (Colorado Court of Appeals); and Tom Dupree, Partner, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP.
